You need to collect solars while playing slots, making purchases, and Hourly Bonuses.
Then feel free to use these solars in the event.
You may receive default icons or character icons for spinning the event slot.
Default icons provide coins.
Character icons upgrade your minions on the left part of the screen.

You receive coins for upgrading your characters, and a great reward is waiting for you to set them on the same exact level or higher. This information is displayed at the top of the screen.
